25 Signs We Are Near The End
Introduction
25 Signs We Are Near The End is the third book in our series on the study of Bible prophecy: past, present, and future.
The first book was an introduction to the subject. We titled it God Wants Us To Know The Future: An Introduction to Bible Prophecy.Among other things, this book documented that the Lord, the God of the Bible, made specific claims, namely, He knew exactly what would take place in the future, that He was in control of the future, and to confirm this, He claimed to have given a number of specific predictions about the future that have been literally fulfilled.
We also included an important appendix about why Abraham and his descendants help us understand why Bible prophecy should be interpreted literally.
The second book, 50 Biblical Prophecies Made And Fulfilled, God’s Work In History documented a number of the biblical prophecies that have already been fulfilled in the past. We verified that the God of the Bible has supernaturally predicted events which have now come to pass.
In doing so, we gave fifty examples of these predictions and their miraculous fulfillments. Furthermore, we discovered that these biblical predictions had about 250 specific details contained in them that were all literally fulfilled.
In other words, the claims that the Lord made about knowing the future have been marvelously confirmed. Indeed, He has had a perfect “track record.”
In 25 Signs We Are Near The End we look at predictions that the Bible has made about the distant future—the last days. In doing so, we consider twenty-five specific signs that the Bible gives that demonstrates that we are near the “time of the end.” By this we mean the time when the Lord Jesus returns from Heaven and sets up His everlasting kingdom. In this book, we will discover about 70 predictions about the time of the end already fulfilled with another thirty plus in the process of being fulfilled.
For the record, we will not involve ourselves in any wild speculation that predicts the exact time the end will occur. This is not biblical, nor is it helpful. Instead, our goal is simply to lay out what the Scripture has to say about the subject, and then observe how its predictions about the last days have been literally fulfilled—setting the stage for the return of the Lord.
Two Important Matters
There are two important things that we must always remember in interpreting Bible prophecy.
First, we are not to go “beyond that which is written.” Paul wrote:
Now, brothers and sisters, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying: “Nothing beyond what is written” (1 Corinthians 4:6 CSB).
In the Scriptures, God has revealed everything that is necessary for us to know about Him and His plan for time and eternity. Jude wrote:
But now I find that I must write about something else, urging you to defend the faith that God has entrusted once for all time to his holy people (Jude 3 NLT).
The faith has been “once and for all delivered.” God has told us everything that needs to be said. Therefore, we derive our information from the Bible and from it alone. We do not go elsewhere to discover what will happen in the future.
Second, we are to read the Bible at face-value. In other words, we do not have to read between the lines to find hidden messages. Paul wrote:
Our letters have been straightforward, and there is nothing written between the lines and nothing you can’t understand (2 Corinthians 1:13 NLT)
The Amplified Bible puts it this way:
For we write you nothing other than what you read and understand [there is no double meaning in what we say]. And I hope you will [accurately] understand [divine things] until the end (2 Corinthians 1:13 Amplified Bible)
To sum up, we go to the Bible alone for our information about the future and in doing so we read the Scriptures in a straightforward manner. There are no hidden messages or any double meanings in the text.
The Testimony Of Past Bible Commentators
Not only will we look at what the Bible says—in a number of cases, we will consider the observations of past commentators of Scripture. We will discover that these commentators made certain predictions about the future based upon the Bible and the Bible alone. They did this at such a time when the predicted events looked impossible to ever take place. But they have indeed come to pass just as the Scripture said!
In addition, we have included an appendix that provides even further documentation of the predictions of past commentators that have also come to pass.
There are several other appendices in this book. One of them answers a number of objections about predictive prophecy and the “last days.” Another one looks at the one objective witness throughout the centuries that has continued to prove the truthfulness of the Bible—the miraculous survival of the Jewish people.
This study should greatly increase the faith of believers who have any doubts as to whether or not God has spoken in the Bible.
For unbelievers, this book will provide evidence that a God does exist who knows the future, is in control of the future, and has told us about certain events which will take place in the future. We only ask that all who read this book keep an open mind when examining the evidence that we put forward.
With these thoughts in mind, let us now consider our third volume in our study of Bible prophecy—twenty-five signs that we are near the end. . .
